Founder's Invitation to Join

JOIN NOW!
My name is Laurie Richter and I am a resident of the Residences of Rancho La Puerta. I organized a giving circle in the northern suburbs of Chicago in 2013 based upon an inspiring story I heard about how $12,800 was raised in an hour by a similar group in Michigan. I was moved to action by both the results and the simplicity of the way in which they accomplished it. With a commitment of only $400 per year, my circle has now raised over $700,000 and the organization, which now has almost 800 giving circles, is called 100 Who Care Alliance (100whocarealliance.org).

We can have that same transformative impact here in our new community of Tecate.  When you donate $200 to a local charity, you wonder if you're making a difference.  But when 100 people donate $200 at the same time, the group accomplishes collectively what few of us can accomplish on our own -- making a huge $20,000 donation that can enable a charity to complete a project or attain a goal that had been out of reach. That's real impact.  And it only takes an hour.

Here’s how it works:
  • We will get together two times a year to choose from three worthy local charities
  • Meetings will be in-person at RRLP but will also be Zoomed for those who aren’t in residence
  • In the beginning, the steering committee of the circle will generate and vet a list of local charities that are registered with the Mexican government. Over time, as members become more familiar with Tecate, any member of the group can nominate a local charity
  • Three vetted charities are randomly chosen ahead of time and after a short presentation and Q&A by the nonprofit and/or the nominating member, the group votes on which charity to support. Every member in good standing can cast one vote.
  • Every member makes a $200 tax-deductible donation to the charity with the most votes
  • The other two charities are each also given a $500 donation from the funds collected

No volunteering, no telemarketing, no event planning, no silent auction donations to solicit.  But it’s simply a great way to give back right here in Tecate, to connect with your new neighbors and to learn about your new community. The exposure often results in members becoming more actively involved with nonprofits as well.

I know that everyone gives in their own way to their own favorite charities.  You may already be doing something that works for you.  But if you think you might be one of 100 (or more) women or men who wants to join us, we would love for you to become a member.

The power of 100 people having local impact.  Come join with us.

Sincerely yours,
Laurie Richter
